Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona have twice tried to sign Inter defender Stefan de Vrij over the last couple of seasons. The defender turned down a move when leaving Lazio because he though he’d play more at Inter, while Antonio Conte blocked a move in June.
Clement Lenglet says new team-mate Antoine Griezmann will settle at Barcelona which is much different to Atletico. He told RAC1: “Griezmann will adapt to Barca, because of his talent and his personal quality. It’s a totally different game to Atletico. There are fewer spaces to run into when attacking, and you have to adapt to a new life, a new home, many things which you are not accustomed to, because he has not been at many clubs.”
Barcelona will play home games against Inter Milan, Sevilla and Real Madrid in October, just like they did in 2018. Ernesto Valverde’s side ran out winners in all three matches last season. The Spanish champions play a total of six games this month, two in the Champions League and four in La Liga.
Barcelona will face Europe’s most in-form defence in the Champions League on Wednesday. Inter have conceded only three goals in all competitions this season, the best record across Europe’s top five leagues.
Paulinho says he returned to Guangzhou Evergrande as a better player after his spell at Barcelona. He explained: “When I was at Barcelona I played in so many important competitions like La Liga and the UEFA Champions League so since returning I am a much more experienced player. I have a better understanding of how to play with my teammates in important competitions such as the AFC Champions League, and that experience is a big help.”
Dani Olmo’s dad, Miquel, has been talking about why the youngster left Barcelona for Dinamo Zagreb. The player’s father says is “was the most difficult decision of his life” but thought it best for his development given the difficulty of making the breakthrough at the Camp Nou.
Dani Alves reckons Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona was the perfect team. He explained: “I don’t think this team was the closest to perfection as possible, I think that team was perfection. I think I was part of the best team in the history of football; for the way they played, for the way they did things, for how they complimented each other, it’s Barcelona.”
