We are seeing some of the first clips from a performance of “Messi 10,” a show created by Cirque du Soleil based on Lionel Messi. They are quite something:
Subtitled “there is a 10 inside all of us,” the spectacle has been in production for quite some time, but it’s only now that we are getting to watch just what it will be like. Cleverly, the show lasts for 90 minutes, split by a “half time” in between 45 minute segments. Reports say it will consist of 20 performances.
Aside from dancers, acrobats, football freestylers, and other performers, images of the Barcelona player will be projected onto screens.
While Cirque du Soleil had made shows based on people before, such as the Beatles, this is the first time they created something based on an athlete and not a musician. The show will premiere in Barcelona, of course, one of Cirque Du Soleil’s most important markets.
The show is not exactly biographical and instead will try to convey the player’s “spirit” through varied performances, with the company saying it will appeal to football fans and non-fans alike, and people of all ages.
