Barcelona announced on Friday that Luis Suarez will not join up with the Uruguay squad over the international break but will stay at the club and undergo treatment instead.

Domestic football is put on hold after the weekend’s action, with Oscar Tabarez’s side scheduled to play two friendlies against Peru. However, they will do so without Suarez.

Barcelona say they have agreed with Uruguay for Suarez to remain at the club for “medical treatment” which is “part of their personalized work plan.”

There are no details about what sort of treatment Suarez will be receiving at the club or any suggestion that he has picked up a new injury.

Barcelona play their final game before the international break on Sunday at the Camp Nou against Sevilla, with Suarez expected to start the match after his two goals in midweek.
