Will Moussa Wagué make his first start for Barcelona against Leganés?

Nélson Semedo and Sergi Roberto will be unavailable

Moussa Wagué could make his debut this season for FC Barcelona in the next league match against Leganés. The Senegalese right-back has not played at all this season after being promoted from Barcelona B, and has struggled to even make the match day squad on most occasions.

However, Nélson Semedo and Sergi Roberto, the two players who occupy the right-back spot, will be unavailable. Semedo is injured and Roberto is suspended. That makes Wagué the logical choice.

Ernesto Valverde gave him his first minutes for the senior team last season, using him in three La Liga matches, although only once the title was secured. This season, he has not gone to Wagué at all.

Other solutions exist but they all involve playing someone out of position. Valverde could take one of his left-backs and play him on the right, for example. Another possibility is changing a right-footed midfielder to right-back. After all, Roberto himself is a converted midfielder. There’s also the possibility of something exotic like moving Ousmane Dembélé from winger to right-back. All of these options, however, would show Valverde simply does not trust Wagué.
