Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has been talking about under-fire manager Ernesto Valverde and says he’s the “ideal coach” to lead the club currently.
Bartomeu spoke about how the club are preparing for the “post-Messi era” by bringing in young players to combine with the club’s more experienced stars.
Valverde’s future at the club has come under scrutiny after some pretty poor performances so far this season, but it seems he still has the full backing of Bartomeu.
“This season we have brought in young players who have to help us get through those stages,” he said.
“We think that Valverde is the ideal coach to lead this blending of a generation of players of a certain age who have been so successful with that of up-and-coming players.
”It is important to create this bond, this union, to make a new team and this new group that will carry Barca forward. And Valverde has this ability.”

Valverde was asked about his future at the club in Friday’s press conference and said he wasn’t worried, but there’s no doubt pressure will increase if he is unable to improve performances and results.
