Lionel Messi won his sixth Ballon d’Or on Monday, beating Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane to the prestigious trophy as well as Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Barcelona captain has now won the Golden Ball more times than any other player in history after another year where he’s proven to be head and shoulders above the rest.
Messi netted 54 goals for club and country in 2018-19, winning La Liga for the 10th time and being named FIFA’s Best Men’s Player.
He missed the start of the current campaign through injury but has returned in style, banging in 13 goals and eight assists in 16 outings for Barcelona and Argentina.
