Arthur targeting clásico return for Barcelona

The midfielder is hoping to play against Real Madrid in La Liga

Arthur, who has been a starter for FC Barcelona recently, is targeting el clásico as his return date from an injury in his left calf, according to Diario AS. The Brazilian is doing work on the pitch, but apart from the group. He’s starting to train with the ball, and according to AS, he plans to be with the rest of the group when Barcelona go to the Santiago Bernabéu to face Real Madrid in La Liga in two weeks.

Arturo Vidal is said to be the favorite to replace Arthur in the starting XI when Barça take on Lyon in the UEFA Champions League today.

Apart from missing the match against Lyon, Arthur will surely be absent in Barcelona’s meetings with Sevilla in La Liga and Real Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey tie.

Reports suggested coach Ernesto Valverde was annoyed at Arthur for attending Neymar’s birthday in Paris two days before facing Madrid in the Copa del Rey, a match which ended 1-1 and in which it is understood the midfielder picked up his injury.
