Gerard Pique named in Catalonia squad to play Venezuela friendly

Xavi and Marc Cucurella have also been called up

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is part of a Catalonia squad to play a friendly against Venezuela on March 25.

Pique retired from Spain duty after the 2018 World Cup but will play in the game which is due to take place at Girona’s Estadio Montilivi.

Also in the squad are Xavi, Marc Cucurella and Marc Cardona, as well as former Barca players Marc Bartra, Martin Montoya, Marc Muniesa, Aleix Vidal and Bojan Krkic.

A number of La Liga clubs have refused to release players for the game.

Strugglers Real Valladolid, Rayo Vallecano and Huesca have all stopped playing joining the team claiming “sporting” reasons.

Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu is another players who will not be taking part.
