Josep Maria Bartomeu has spoken. The FC Barcelona president has declared that his current player, Ousmane Dembélé, is better than his former player, Neymar.
In an interview with Cadena SER partially transcribed by Diario SPORT, Bartomeu was asked whether ex-Barcelona star Neymar would leave Paris Saint-Germain. “I won’t say yes or no,” Bartomeu began, “I will say that with the money from his sale, Barça made an investment. We made an investment in players like Dembélé and Philippe Coutinho. Dembélé is better than Neymar. He is Barça’s, and the better one is him.”
Bartomeu also said he saw the post Lionel Messi era as far away. “Messi has a contract until 2021 and I believe we are going to give him another deal. Another strong renewal. This one with more strength than ever. He has ambition and will, and we will have Messi for a while.”
Despite this, the president said the team is looking for young talent.
Another topic in the interview was VAR, which Bartomeu said Barcelona is in favor of. “We are speaking of an improvement in the competition,” he said. “Our club is one of the drivers of this technology.”
