Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena has missed out on a place in the Spain squad for this summer’s Under-21 European Championship.
The 21-year-old was promoted to the Barca first team this season and went on to make 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring against Villarreal and Alaves.
Alena made his Under-21 debut in a 1-0 win over Romania in March but will not be heading to Italy as part of Luis de la Fuente’s side.

Alena’s exclusion means there are no Barcelona players in the squad, while Marc Cucurella has also been left out of the final 23-man list.
