Barcelona are set to return to pre-season training in the coming days and have boosted their squad with the signings of Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann
With a world-class squad ready to battle for honours next season, there are many starlets and squad players Barcelona can give an opportunity to in the coming pre-season.
Let’s have a look at four players who deserve a chance to shine:
Riqui Puig is the exciting midfielder Barcelona will be hoping can go on and thrive at the Camp Nou. His dribbing skills, vision and ability to carry the ball forward have already drawn comparisons to Andres Iniesta. The La Masia graduate is hotly tipped to be a regular for Barcelona as well as feature for the national team in the coming years. This pre-season could be pivotal for the starlet to make a claim to be included in the first-team squad for next season. If given the chance, he has all the right qualities to make it big at Barca.
The Bordeaux import struggled to find game time in his first season at Barca but he can be a game changer. Starting him in pre-season fixtures will prove beneficial for the team as well as the player, who will be keen for another call-up to the Brazil squad. He has been linked with a move away and if he performs well his value may increase and Barcelona can cash in if required. But for any of that to happen, he needs to play first.
Barcelona have been handed a gem as Wague looked pretty tasty at right-back last season. With enormous work rate and frightening pace, Wague featured for the A-team on rare occasions but showed real promise. Barcelona have struggled to find a consistent right-back since Dani Alves left but Wague may be a good candidate to fill in the position. He will return to training late due to his involvement at the AFCON with Senegal, but rest assured that this lad is definitely going to be a top player in the coming years.
The French center-back joined Barcelona in January and showed glimpses of promise every time he featured for the team last season. With Thomas Vermaelen’s contract having expired and Gerard Pique nearing his twilight days, Barcelona desperately need a center-back who can quickly adapt to the Blaugrana system. With Matthijs de Ligt looking likely to move to Juventus, the young Frenchman now has the chance to prove his worth to Barcelona. A solid pre-season can increase his chances of featuring in the new campaign, and if he can live up to his potential then Barcelona may forget all about missing out on De Ligt.
