Barcelona announced on Sunday the signing of full-back Junior Firpo from Real Betis on an initial 18 million euro transfer, and the new boy already has a new squad number.
The “announcement” came via Barça’s Instagram story, which shows Firpo’s uniform in the dressing room ahead of Sunday’s Joan Gamper Trophy against Arsenal.

Firpo has chosen number 24, which was vacated by Thomas Vermaelen who left for Vissel Kobe in Japan. Junior wore number 20 at Betis and the U-21 Spanish national team, but Sergi Roberto is the longtime owner of that shirt at Barça so Firpo decided to take the closest available number.
The only first team number left right now is 14, which was used by Malcom last season.
