The biggest attraction of Barcelona’s tour of the United States will not be there. Captain Lionel Messi will miss this week’s trip to America with a Grade 1 calf injury, the club announced on Monday.

Barça’s official statement mentions “discomfort” and Messi himself talked about a “mishap” on Instagram, which probably means this isn’t serious and Messi is staying in Barcelona to avoid all the traveling and focus solely on his recovery so he could be back in training when his teammates return to the Ciutat Deportiva next week.

However, with no training time following an extended vacation and an injury just two weeks away from the start of La Liga, it is hard to see Messi taking part in Barça’s league debut against Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés, but he should be back sooner rather than later.

Get well soon, Leo!
