After the least convincing win of the season against Villarreal, Barcelona return to La Liga action this weekend for their latest attempt to win their first away game of the season. The opponent is Getafe, the surprising team of last season who are playing in Europe now thanks to amazing coaching, great fans and a team committed to never giving up and always trying to play at their best.
Except from the “great fans” part, Barcelona are missing everything else, which explains why they’re seventh in the table. They’re coached like a mid-table team, they play like one, and they don’t seem to care about doing better. I know the easy, sexy thing is to criticize Ernesto Valverde, and boy do I agree that he needs to go, but great players can overcome bad coaching. These guys can’t, and it’s not because they lack quality, so there’s something else going on. Maybe that dinner works.
Going into this weekend I’m asking for one thing before a win or a great performance: show me you care. Get a yellow for screaming in the referee’s face, argue with each other on the pitch, do something that shows me you can play with heart and you won’t give up. If we don’t beat Getafe I want the manager gone, but I won’t let the players off the hook.
Give me a reason to believe, FC Barcelona. It’s hard right now.
Barcelona (4-3-3): Ter Stegen; Roberto, Piqué, Todibo, Firpo; De Jong, Busquets, Vidal; Dembélé, Suárez, Griezmann
Getafe (4-4-2): Soria; Suárez, Dakonam, Cabrera, Nyom; Jason, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Cucurella; Mata, Molina
No Messi? No Fati? On the road? This is my most optimistic prediction: 0-0 draw. CLEAN SHEET, BABY!!!
