Lionel Messi and Argentina enjoyed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bolivia in World Cup qualifying in La Paz on Tuesday and things kicked off a little after the game.
Argentina had to come from behind to secure the win, thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa, and tempers flared briefly at the final whistle.
Messi was at the heart of it and was spotted engaging in an angry exchange with the Bolivia fitness coach and there are various interpretations of what he said floating about.
According to Sport, Messi shouted: “What’s your problem, baldy? Why are you kicking off, idiot? You don’t have to come and f*ck with me.”
The scuffle didn’t last long as Argentina headed off the pitch to celebrate a tough win at altitude that made it two out of two at the start of their qualifying campaign.
Messi now heads back to Barcelona but seems pretty happy with life. He wrote on Instagram:
“Great triumph at altitude, where it always costs more. There is still a lot to do, the qualifiers have just started and we are very happy to have achieved these two victories.”
