The midfielder has been officially registered with the senior squad and will have a first-team number going forwards, although his new shirt number has not yet been confirmed.
Manager Ronald Koeman had told Puig to head out on loan to play regularly as he would struggle for game time at the Camp Nou, but the 21-year-old insisted he wanted to stay and fight for his place.
It’s pretty brave stuff from Puig who surely would not have lacked for offers if Barcelona had made him available in the transfer window.
Yet Puig really now has his work cut out impressing Koeman. He’s been in all three matchday squads so far but hasn’t played a single minute.
Hopefully that situation will change in the coming weeks and months, but Koeman has a vast squad to choose from and it’s difficult to see Puig getting much of a look in at present.
