Spain boss Luis Enrique has offered an update on Sergio Busquets and has explained why the midfielder has not yet returned to Barcelona.

The national team have already confirmed that Busquets won’t play in Tuesday’s clash with Germany because of a knee injury but have not sent him back to his club side.

Lucho says Busquets did have the option to head back to Barca but has decided to stay with the squad for their Nations League clash tomorrow.

“We are glad that he has something very slight. I really appreciate that he has stayed with us even though he could have returned home. He can’t play tomorrow, but he’s decided to stay rather than leave - in spite of our insistence - that says a little about the atmosphere among the squad.”

Busquets is expected to miss Barca’s clash with Atletico Madrid on Saturday but is not expected to be out for as long as originally feared. It’s thought he will also sit out the trip to Dynamo Kiev but could return against Osasuna.
