Barcelona’s interim president, Carles Tusquets, has told the media that the club can make signings during the winter transfer window, but only if it makes sales first.

“If we sell during the winter transfer window, we will be able to buy. We can also sign players who are out of contract. That is the situation,” Tusquets explained.

After the resignation of Josep Maria Bartomeu, Tusquets is in charge, but only on an interim basis. He says elections for a new president will take place near Christmas, so long as the situation surrounding pandemic allows for it.

Tusquets struck a serious tone when it came to the club’s financial troubles: “I don’t want to say the situation is dramatic, but it is highly worrying. No one saw a situation like this coming. We can’t do anything. It is getting worse from day to day.”

Reports say that Barcelona were unable to land certain players during the previous transfer window, including Eric García and Memphis Depay, due to financial issues.
