Barcelona’s defensive injury crisis deepened on Sunday when Clement Lenglet was forced off with what looked like an ankle injury.

The Frenchman hobbled off after a challenge by Ruben Garcia on 67 minutes with Carles Alena coming on to replace him. Frenkie de Jong dropped back into defense to partner Oscar Mingueza for the rest of the game.

Lenglet’s injury is a real problem for Barcelona who are already without Samuel Umtiti, Gerard Pique, and Ronald Araujo due to injury. Mingueza started again on Sunday in what was his La Liga debut.

De Jong is an option in central defense and may well be needed there in the coming weeks if Lenglet is ruled out for a little while. Barca should be able to call on Araujo soon, but it’s not quite clear when the Uruguayan will be fit to return.
