Jean-Clair Todibo’s future is currently the subject of speculation with reports in Portugal suggesting Benfica want to cut the defender’s loan from Barcelona short and send him back to the Camp Nou in January.

The defender has not managed a single appearance yet for Jorge Jesus’s side, largely due to injury, and has been on the end of some harsh words from the Benfica boss ahead of their game against Standard Liege.

However, it seems that Barcelona aren’t expecting him back this winter, according to Mundo Deportivo. The club have made it clear to Benfica that “his signing in the summer is fixed by contract. It is a one-year assignment and there is no possibility of his coming back.”

Barcelona have been hit by defensive injuries this season, and there’s still no return date set for Gerard Pique. The Catalan giants have been linked with signing a new defender in the next transfer window but may be unable to bring in anyone because of their financial problems.

A return for Todibo therefore looked a good idea all around, but it seems that Barca aren’t too interested in having the 20-year-old back at the Camp Nou currently.
