Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong said he wants to get more assists after picking up his first of the season in La Liga during Sunday’s 1-0 win over Levante.
The Netherlands international teed up Lionel Messi for the only goal of the game as Barca picked up a much-needed three points in La Liga.
De Jong spoke briefly after the match and admitted it was a result the team badly needed after their midweek disappointment in the Champions League.
“It always feels good to get an assist. I need to get more assists but today was a good start. We needed the win after losing to Juve. It was tough, but we’re happy.”
The Dutchman lined up in midfield alongside Sergio Busquets once again on Sunday and produced one of his better performances.
A brilliant surging run brought a good chance for Messi that was wasted by the captain, but the two combined again for the winner late on to seal a hard-fought three points.
