Jordi Alba said Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Real Sociedad on Wednesday at the Camp Nou was the team’s best performance of the 2020-21 season so far.
The Catalan giants took all three points against Imanol Alguacil’s table-toppers to move into fifth place in the league table.
Alba equalized after Willian Jose had put Real Sociedad in front before Frenkie de Jong snatched the winner just before half-time.
The left-back spoke after the game about his team’s performance against La Real.
“We had it very clear in our minds how to press. I think it’s the best game we’ve played all year. We were united, together on the pitch, it’s difficult to play without fans, but today we saw the motivation, we were playing against a good side, we wanted to win and we just want to keep climbing the table.
“They opened up positions out wide and we found it difficult at times but we got our two goals. We knew it would be difficult against one of the best sides in La Liga.
“I’m happy when im assisting rather than scoring but you try 100 of them and one of them goes in. Luckily it went in today and it was important to score quickly after they had gone ahead. We played a fantastic game today.”
It’s definitely a big win for Barcelona and follows on from their 1-0 victory over Levante next time out. Next up is a visit from Valencia on Saturday.
