Felipe Melo has been talking about how to stop Lionel Messi and revealed the Brazil team used to take it in turns fouling the GOAT.

The midfielder made his admiration for “incredible” Messi clear in the interview but also admitted his team-mates had not been afraid to get physical when up against the Argentine.

“He is a unique player. When the Brazilian team played against him we said: ‘..We have to kick him once each, we have to rotate’.

“And I am not saying kicking him to break him, but a tactical foul, cut his rhythm, disturb him.”

Melo came up against Messi plenty of times in a career which has seen him play in Spain, Italy and Turkey. He returned to Brazil in 2017 to play for Palmeiras.
