The German national football team, including Barcelona keeper Marc-André ter Stegen, has made a donation of €2.5 million to fight coronavirus. The stars of German football have made a donation as a group to various charities, according to reports.

“In times like these, we have to look out for each other. We have also put our heads together and have decided to donate €2.5m to good causes,” team captain Manuel Neuer said in an Instagram video.

”We are facing a huge social problem which affects everyone and not just the older generation,” said Leon Goretzka of Bayern Munich.

His teammate at club level, Joshua Kimmich, thanked medical professionals and those working “to ensure that our supply lines remain intact.”

The idea came from the players themselves, according to the German federation.
