Alex Song knew he wouldn’t play much at Barcelona ‘but didn’t give a f***’

The midfielder knew he’d become a millionaire

UEFA Champions League - Ajax v FC Barcelona

Alex Song has been talking about his move from Arsenal to Barcelona and has explained he knew he wouldn’t play much at the Camp Nou but didn’t really care because of the wages on offer.

The midfielder made the switch from north London in 2012 and went on to spend four years with the Catalan giants. However, in that time he hardly saw any game time, a situation that did not come as a shock.

Song spoke about the transfer in an Instagram chat with Pascal Siakam.

“When Barcelona offered me a contract and I saw how much I would earn, I didn’t think twice. I felt my wife and children should have comfortable lives once my career is over.

“I met Barca’s sporting director, and he told me I would not get to play many games. But I didn’t give a f*** – I knew that now I would become a millionaire.”

The former Cameroon international eventually left for West Ham United and then had spells with Rubin Kazan in Russia and FC Sion in Switzerland.
