One of the more looming questions about the return to football amidst Covid-19 is fitness. As teams slowly but surely report back to training, match fitness remains a question. Some players have seemed confident that they’re ready to go, others, have not.

Frenkie de Jong appears to be one of the players admitting that he isn’t ready to take the pitch.

“Two or three months apart was a long time. It is always nice to meet up again after separation for holidays or whatever, but it’s normally just three weeks or so and this was almost three months”.

“I don’t think I’m ready to play a game yet. We still need a few weeks of training. First individually, then in small groups and then as a whole team. We’ll be ready to play again in a few weeks’ time.”

Frenkly, pun intended, I enjoy the honesty. There’s no way most of these guys are in match fitness after being home for that long.
