Las Palmas boss Pep Mel said he was not surprised to see Pedri pull off a bit of magic on Saturday as his team beat CD Lugo 1-0.

The Barcelona-bound youngster set up the goal with a brilliant bit of skill that earned praise from his manager after the game.

“Pedri does not surprise me. He has realized that he has to sacrifice himself and sweat like the rest of his team-mates. But it should be noted that all the players are at a great level.

“Football is a game to think about. Now the team is having fun and everyone wants to play. It is a very important thing.”

Pedri played down his contribution after the match. He said: ”I will have to watch it on TV to see if it is as good as they say.”

The teenager has started 28 of Las Palmas’s 34 league games so far in 2019-20, with the team currently in 10th place in the table.
