Manchester City are interested in making a move for Sergi Roberto, with Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain very familiar with their compatriot, according to a new report.

It was Guardiola who gave Roberto his first-team debut when the pair were at Barcelona, and Begiristain knew him as an academy boy.

Roberto, who is by his nature a midfielder, plays mostly as a right-back these days, although is famous for playing all over the pitch.

Barcelona would be interested in the proposition, but only for a good price, and not as part of a player swap, it is said.

The Catalan club needs time to find who their next right-back will be should they let Roberto go, with rumors saying that they are open to Nélson Semedo leaving as well.
