Luis Enrique has revealed how he motivated FC Barcelona during the pre-match team talk before the 2015 UEFA Champions League Final against Juventus.
“Half-jokingly, I asked the players, what is the worst thing that could happen to us today?” the former Barcelona and current Spain coach said.
He says veteran players gave answers like “to not to be true to our style,” and the like.
But he said it wasn’t that.
“I said the worst thing that could happen to you today is to be a Juventus player and have to face Barça!
“Imagine you have to mark Luis Suárez, or Neymar, or Leo Messi, or Andrés Iniesta, or Sergio Busquets!
“Imagine trying to score goal against Marc-André ter Stegen. Be Álvaro Morata, and try and score against Javier Mascherano and Gerard Piqué. Be Patrice Evra, and try to defend against Dani Alves.”
“I said it a little bit jokingly, but in reality... imagine we are at Juventus’s team talk. And I’m talking to you about Barça. You’d be sh—ing yourselves! No two ways about it!”
