David Alaba is reportedly offering himself to FC Barcelona, as he looks to make an exit from Bayern Munich. However, Barça feel it will be difficult to sign him this season, in part because of the losses incurred after the coronavirus pandemic.
Alaba reportedly is holding up his contract renewal, which at the present moment would leave him open to a free transfer next season. That’s when Barça may feel more inclined to make the move for the left-back.
The Austrian has been said to have been wanted by Barcelona for a long time, in part because of his ability to play multiple roles apart from fullback, such as central defender and midfielder. And, it has also been rumored that Alaba has wanted to join the Catalans for a while now.
The issue is Bayern never were willing to sell - perhaps until now.
He is said to be asking for 20 million euros per year from Bayern, although he is willing to lower that demand for clubs such as Barcelona.
