Barcelona will be without Frenkie de Jong and Junior Firpo for Wednesday’s La Liga clash with Espanyol because of injury.

Yet there is good news on the De Jong front. The midfielder was back to training on Tuesday and could return at the weekend against Real Valladolid.

Quique Setien was asked about the Dutch midfielder in his pre-match press conference and offered the following update:

“He trained today even though it was with little intensity what we did today. He’s feeling better all the time and the feeling is that he comes back in and we look at his recovery to see if he’s OK to play at Valladolid.”

The Dutch midfielder has only played once for Barcelona since La Liga restarted because of a calf problem.

Junior Firpo is also sidelined again after picking up a hip problem ahead of Sunday’s win over Villarreal. He trained alone on Tuesday and is not in the squad for the visit of Espanyol.
