Barcelona announced on Tuesday that sporting director Eric Abidal will depart, following manager Quique Setien out of the Camp Nou.

There had been reports on Monday that Abidal was set to stay at the club but the Frenchman is now set to leave after two years in the job.

“FC Barcelona and Éric Abidal have reached an agreement for the ending of the contract that united the two parties.

“The Club would publicly like to thank Éric Abidal for his professionalism, commitment, dedication and the close and positive nature of his relationship with all aspects of the blaugrana family.”

Abidal’s departure is Barcelona’s latest change following their hammering by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Barca promised a “wider restructuring of the first team” after Setien’s sacking with Ronald Koeman expected to arrive as the club’s new manager this week.
