Ronald Araujo is reportedly optimistic he can make a swift return from injury and is even hopeful he could feature against Real Sociedad on Wednesday in the Spanish Super Cup if needed.
The Uruguayan missed Saturday’s win over Granada after picking up a hamstring strain in the warm-up and was replaced by Samuel Umtiti.
Barcelona confirmed the injury on Sunday but didn’t say how long they expect the defender to be sidelined.
MEDICAL UPDATE | Tests carried out this morning have shown that @RonaldAraujo939 has a right hamstring strain. His recovery will determine his availability for the coming training sessions. pic.twitter.com/l77Rn942Qe— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) January 10, 2021
According to Sport, Araujo has been in touch with the club’s medical staff to let them know he’s feeling good and that he’s optimistic he could play later this week.
Barca are due to train on Monday and Tuesday before the match against Real Sociedad which does give Araujo time to prove his fitness.
Yet there seems absolutely no point in rushing Araujo back for the game and risking further injury, particularly as Clement Lenglet will be available again after suspension as well as Oscar Mingueza and Samuel Umtiti.
