Sergino Dest was back in the starting line-up for the United States on Wednesday and also on the scoresheet in a 2-1 comeback win over Costa Rica in World Cup qualifying.
The hosts, whose starting XI was their youngest ever for a World Cup qualifier, suffered a nightmare start when Keysher Fuller put Costa Rica ahead with just a minute on the clock at Lower.com Field.
It did not take too long for the US to equalize with a Dest thunderbolt. The Barcelona star cut inside and fired an unstoppable left-footed shot into the top corner to make it 1-1.

Eagled-eyed viewers noticed that Dest managed to score despite the fact his lace was undone.
Dest spoke about his goal after the game and was pretty pleased with his effort.
“I think it was [Weston], he made the run in behind and the guy follows him, so there was space for me,” Dest said.
“I just got put inside and I thought like the only thing I could do at the moment was just shoot it, because we had to score. We are 1-0 down, so I felt like you know, we needed this point so I was just trying to show it and it was an amazing goal.”
The 20-year-old was also involved in his team’s second goal on 66 minutes which turned out to be the winner for the UMSNT. The Barca defender played in Timothy Weah whose shot managed to go in at the near post and after hitting substitute goalkeeper Loenel Moreira and the post.
Gregg Berhalter’s side held on for the win which puts the team’s qualifying campaign back on track after a disappointing loss to Panama last time out.
