Frenkie de Jong praised Ansu Fati after Sunday’s victory over Valencia and admitted it was an important win for Barcelona at the start of a big week for the Catalan giants.
Ronald Koeman’s side returned to winning ways by seeing off Los Che 3-1 at the Camp Nou and now go on to play Dynamo Kiev and Real Madrid.
De Jong says the three points against Valencia will give the team confidence ahead of some crunch fixtures at home and abroad.
“It’s an important win, this is a key week in the season for us. We have started well, we have three points and that gives us more confidence which is very important,” he said.
“It’s always a shame when they score so early but we reacted well. I think we played with intensity, I thought the attitude was perfect.”
Ansu Fati was on target for Barcelona on his first start for the club this season, and the Dutchman is glad to have the teenager back in the team.
“Ansu is very important with his speed, he gets into one-on-one situations, he can score goals. It’s important and great to have him back in the starting XI.”
Memphis Depay and Philippe Coutinho were also on target for the hosts who move up into seventh place in the table with the win, five points behind leaders Real Sociedad who have played a game extra.
