Clement Lenglet has had to settle for a reduced role at Barcelona this season and not just because of the competition for places at the Camp Nou.

We knew when Eric Garcia came in he was likely to take some of Lenglet’s game time. We also knew that once Gerard Pique’s health wasn’t a problem he would be with Garcia in getting guaranteed play time.

There were transfer rumors over the summer that Barca were willing to offload Lenglet, but it became clear the defender wanted to stay despite it being obvious his playing time would be reduced.

We’re finding out now that there’s another reason Lenglet’s mainly been on the bench so far in 2021-22. The defender has been experiencing knee pain which has “prevented him from being 100%,” according to Sport.

Both Lenglet and Barca have agreed not to take any risks with his knee tendinitis and will opt for patience in the matter. The report says the pain has eased which may mean Lenglet enjoys more minutes after the international break.
