The two-time NBA champion returns home

2010-2011 NBA Media Day

FC Barcelona’s basketball section has officially announced the return of its most famous export, Pau Gasol. The two-time NBA Champion and six-time NBA All-Star was most recently playing with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Gasol was out for the past two years due to an ankle injury. He was signed by the Portland Trail Blazers but was unable to play for them due to his ankle problem. He is still not available to play but it’s expected he should be ready in March.

A Barcelona native, Gasol has also won the FIBA World Cup title, three EuroBasket titles, two Olympic silver medals, and an Olympic bronze medal with the Spanish national basketball team.

He is best remembered as Kobe Bryant’s teammate between 2008 and 2014, when the pair combined to win two back-to-back titles as part of the Los Angeles Lakers.

He started his career at FC Barcelona Bàsquet and was drafted in the 2001 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, who then traded his draft rights to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Gasol made his mark with the Grizzlies until he was traded to the Lakers for a draft pick and four players, including his brother Marc.

After leaving the Lakers, he played for the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and finally, the Bucks.

Gasol joins a Barcelona that is first in the EuroLeague and second in the Spanish League.
