Three of Barcelona’s French contingent have been called up by the FIFA World Cup Champions.
Clément Lenglet, Antoine Griezmann, and Ousmane Dembélé have all made it into Didier Deschamps’s squad. Samuel Umtiti, who was a key piece of that title-winning run, has not made it back, after a string of injuries post-World Cup have kept him from making it into the squads.
This is Dembélé’s first call-up since November 2018.
“In recent weeks, he has been playing consistently and is back to his athletic capacity. He is playing, he is scoring goals, even if he could score more. He was severely hampered by repeated injuries. He must gradually gain maturity. Aside from that, what he is able to do today, what he has been able to do for several years, is why he was part of the squad of world champions,” Deschamps said.
Griezmann congratulated Dembélé’s return to the national team with a post on Twitter filled with “heart eyes” emojis and French flags.
