Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has cast his vote for the club’s next president as members went to the polls on Sunday to elect Josep Maria Bartomeu’s successor.

Messi arrived at the Camp Nou fresh from picking up two assists for Barcelona in the win over Osasuna on Saturday that moved the club to within two points of Atletico Madrid.

Of course Messi’s future is one of the big topics the new president will have to contend with after taking over with the captain’s current deal expiring this summer.

The 33-year-old wasn’t the only player casting his vote on Sunday. Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Jordi Alba and Riqui Puig were all spotted taking part.

Former Barca boss Luis Enrique, Bojan Krkic, Barça B manager García Pimienta and Carles Puyol have also been pictured casting their votes.

Joan Laporta, Victor Font and Toni Freixa are the three candidates in the running with Laporta the favorite to take charge of the club for a second time.

Voting is open until 9pm tonight local time and the votes will then be counted with a result expected around about 11.30pm. The new president is then expected to give a speech.
