It’s been a while since we had a Neymar back to Barcelona rumor to talk about but, fear not, speculation about the Brazilian heading back to the Camp Nou is back again for another transfer window.
Xavi Hernandez at Diario ARA is reporting Neymar has called a halt to renewal talks with Paris Saint-Germain because he wants to head back to Barcelona. The Brazilian believes Messi is staying at the Camp Nou and wants to come back and play with the Argentine again.
The 29-year-old has apparently already informed Barca of his wishes and how he’s willing to make financial sacrifices in order to secure the transfer given the Catalans’ debts.
Neymar made it clear at the end of 2020 he wants to play with Messi again at some point in his career, although at the time it was widely assumed it was more likely to be at PSG than Barcelona.
“What I want most is to play with Messi again, to be able to enjoy being on the pitch with him again,” he said.
“He could play in my place. He won’t have any problems, I’m sure. I want to play with him again and I’m sure that, next season, we have to do it.”
Messi tried to leave Barcelona last summer but it now seems possible he will stay following the departure of Josep Maria Bartomeu as president and with Joan Laporta installed.
Barca have been linked with a host of attackers this summer, despite the club’s huge debts, with players such as Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Lautaro Martinez all linked. It seems Neymar can now be added to that list.
PSG had been expected to announce Neymar had agreed a contact extension at the Parc des Princes before the end of the season with reports claiming he had agreed a new four-year deal.
Neymar is out of contract in 2022, along with team-mate Kylian Mbappe, which means PSG have plenty of work to do before the opening of the transfer window.
The latest rumor about Neymar comes hours after the Brazilian was sent off on Saturday as PSG suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lille that leaves them in second in Ligue 1, three points off top spot.
