FC Barcelona has made the decision to buy Emerson Royal’s contract in full, and has already told Real Betis of their decision, according to the latest reports.

The Catalans have co-owned the fullback’s contract alongside Betis since 2019, when he left Atlético Mineiro. Since then, he has played exclusively for Betis.

This year, Barcelona has to make the decision whether to pay 9 million euro to own him outright, or to allow a deadline to expire, at which point he would belong to Betis.

The two clubs could have also agreed to sell him to a third club, sharing the profits afterward. However, no suitable offer came.

The deadline is Monday the 31st, so his signing should be announced in the coming days.

The Catalans have reportedly already told Betis of their decision, although unofficially at this point.

They could still loan or sell Emerson from this point forward even if they signed him before Monday. However, it is expected the Brazilian will remain at the Camp Nou at least until pre-season.
