Memphis Depay has said that a summer move to Barcelona does not depend on coach Ronald Koeman staying at the Camp Nou.

The Dutchman’s future is in the spotlight after a disappointing end to the season and it’s not clear if he will see out the second year of his contract.

Depay has been heavily linked with a move to Barca and says he hopes Koeman stays on but that a possible transfer does not depend on the coach keeping his job.

“The interest is there. I don’t think that should matter if Barcelona is interested in you. It’s a great club, but there are more great clubs. Regardless of where I go I would like it if he stays with Barcelona. For himself anyway.”

The managerial situation has become a little tricky with president Joan Laporta making it pretty clear in his press conference on Friday that Koeman is not his top choice for the job.

Koeman has already insisted he wants to stay on but needs the club’s backing which he doesn’t really seem to have. More talks are expected between both parties next week.
