Oscar Mingueza has been talking about his season at Barcelona and has expressed his gratitude to Ronald Koeman for giving him plenty of game time with the first team
The defender ended up making 39 appearances in all competitions for Barca after breaking into the first team and taking his chances when offered. Mingueza’s form saw the club activate a clause to extend his contract until 2023 back in April.
Mingueza dropped back into Barca B at the end of the season to help the team with their promotion playoff but is hoping to stay with the first team in 2021-22.
“I’m in the first team right now and I guess I’m going to do the pre-season, I’ll see what happens. I hope I can be with Barcelona all year and help as much as possible,” he said.
“Ronald [Koeman] is a coach who has helped me a lot, he made me videos with technical and tactical corrections and the truth is that I am very grateful to him and his coaching staff, so I am very happy for his continuity.”

Barca’s backline looks set for changes next season with Eric Garcia and Emerson Royal having arrived and Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo and even Clement Lenglet all linked with exits.
There’s also been speculation Barca could move for another top class center-back to strengthen the defense if they can raise finances first by offloading some players.
