Gerard Pique says the only club he wants to play for in his career is Barcelona and that he will leave the club if coach Ronald Koeman tells him his time with the team is over.
The center-back spoke about his future in a chat with Ibai Llanos on Twitch and made it clear he only wants to play for Barcelona.
“The day I stop playing for Barcelona, I will leave football. I will never play for any other team. There are players who move for money and other reasons. But If tomorrow Koeman tells me that I have to leave, then I’ll leave.
“Criticism is a part of football. When you jump into a field, you know what you’re exposed to. Football is the most sentimental thing there is and it is up to the task of politics. You have to accept the criticism.”
Pique also spoke about the possibility of becoming Barcelona president at some point in the future and once again admitted it’s a role that appeals.
“It is something that I have always said that makes me excited, it is the club of my life,” he said.
“But hey, we have to see. There is a lot of time left and I like to feel like a player still. When I retire we will see what the plans are.”
Barca are expected to offload several players this summer, although Pique’s name hasn’t really been mentioned. The most recent reports have suggested the center-back wants to stay on and could restructure his contract to help the club financially.
