Barcelona have confirmed that former left-back Sergi Barjuan has been appointed as the new coach of Barcelona B.

Sergi Barjuan comes in to replace Francisco Javier García Pimienta who was sacked from the role after three years last week.

The 49-year-old has signed a contract with the Catalan giants that runs until 30 June 2023 and will start his new job on July 12 when pre-season is set to begin.

The new coach came through the ranks at Barcelona and all the way into the first team. He played 386 games for the Catalans, scoring 11 goals and picking up nine titles.

Sergi Barjuan played for Atletico Madrid before hanging up his boots and returned to Barca to manage the Juvenil A team from 2009-11.

He’s also had coaching roles in Spain with Recreativo, Almería, and Real Mallorca and most recently in China with Zhejiang Greentown.
