Lionel Messi celebrated his 34th birthday on Thursday and was surprised by his Argentina teammates who woke up the skipper by singing Happy Birthday and delivering some presents.
The Barcelona star shared a video of the squad celebrating his birthday on Instagram with the message, “Thank you very much for making me spend a special day even though I am not with the family whom I miss a lot at the moment.”
Messi and the Argentina squad are, of course, away on international duty at the Copa America. The team does not play again until Monday when they take on Bolivia in their final group game but are already through.
There were plenty of other birthday messages for Messi from familiar faces. Good friend Luis Suarez, who is also at the Copa America with Uruguay, promised to catch up for a celebration soon.

Ronaldinho also sent a message to his former teammate: “Happy Birthday my brother #Messi ! I wish you all the best always, I hope to see you soon.”

Dani Alves also took to social media with a cheeky effort, “I would like to leave here just the love and respect for you leomessi. The rest always in private. Congratulations on your birthday and always the best in your life !! (Here just to give you followers.)”
