Barcelona confirmed on Thursday that Jordi Cruyff is set to return the club later this summer in a “strategic role.”
Cruyff has left his position as head coach of Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC to return to the Camp Nou and work with new president Joan Laporta.
Here’s Barca’s official statement:
“FC Barcelona announces that Jordi Cruyff will join the football area of the club and form part of the new organisational structure as of August 1. Jordi Cruyff, who was a player in Barça’s youth teams and in the Barça first team from 1993 to 1996, returns in a strategic role.
“His arrival has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Chinese team, Shenzhen FC, whom he joined as coach in 2020, the Kaisa group and the president of the Chinese team, Kwok Ying Shing. All played a decisive role in facilitating his departure to FC Barcelona, despite still having a contract in force, and we will therefore be happy to seek future possibilities of collaboration.”

Cruyff spent six years as a player at Barcelona and also played for Manchester United before hanging up his boots in 2021. The Dutchman then went on to work in a series of different roles as a sporting director and coach across the world.
Barcelona are also expected to confirm Ronald Koeman’s future later today. It’s widely expected the Dutchman will stay on for a second season at the Camp Nou.
