Ronald Koeman has reportedly told Barcelona to keep hold of Emerson amid speculation the club could attempt to cash in on the Brazil international this summer.
The Catalan giants announced last week they had completed the signing of the 22-year-old right-back after two seasons on loan at Real Betis.
Emerson’s agent, Federico Pena, reportedly met with Mateu Alemany and Rafa Yuste to find out their plans for the new signing and was told they want to keep him, according to Diario Sport.
The report adds that Koeman has requested Emerson stays with the squad and thinks he can reinforce the right-back slot with his “strength and power.”
Barca reportedly paid €9 million to make Emerson’s signing permanent, and there had been rumors the club’s financial problems might tempt the club into selling on to raise some funds.
Serie A clubs Inter and AC Milan have both been linked with Emerson as well as Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems he will now stay at the Camp Nou.
Emerson has made it clear how much he wants to succeed at Barca. He said in a recent interview it’s a “dream” move and he’s looking forward to play for the Catalan giants.
