Oscar Mingueza is currently with the Spain squad preparing for the Tokyo Olympics and is confident the team has what it takes to win the gold medal in Japan.

The defender is one of three Barca players in the squad, with Pedri and Eric Garcia also in the 22, and feels La Roja have the quality needed to go all the way.

“We have a great team. The quality, the work in the training sessions, ... you see what there is and you know that you can win gold and that motivates us all,” he said.

“In terms of football, it is the best year of my life, I have made my debut in all the places where I wanted to make my debut, but this is only the beginning and there is still a long way to go.

“For now, we will try to go little by little, play the games and win, but it is clear that our objective is to win the gold.”

Mingueza and Spain warmed up for the Games with a 1-1 draw with Japan at the weekend. Take Kubo opened the scoring but Spain hit back late on through Carlos Soler.

Spain’s first match of the Olympics is on July 22 against Egypt. La Roja then go on to play Australia three days later before a final group game against Argentina on July 28.
