Paris Saint-Germain are trying to take advantage of the fact Lionel Messi is a free agent and are sending an offer to him in a last-ditch attempt to finally wrestle him away from FC Barcelona, according to the latest news.

PSG have already signed Real Madrid’s captain, Sergio Ramos, on a free transfer, and they would like to add the Barcelona captain.

Messi’s contract expired although it is understood that he intends to remain at the Camp Nou. However, financial issues are said to be holding up the official announcement of the renewal.

The Parisians have been trying to sign Messi for years, although contacts intensified over the last year. They are flush with cash and have added other notable free agents Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma, and more signings are expected.

In addition, they boast stars such as Kylian Mbappé and Neymar, the latter of whom is a personal friend of Messi’s.

They are expected to make a push for the UEFA Champions League next season, and in addition, Paris is considered one of Europe’s most glamorous cities and holds appeal for many players.

There’s also an Argentine contingent to make Messi feel at home: Ángel Di María, Leandro Paredes, and Mauro Icardi are in the squad managed by Mauricio Pochettino.

At the moment, however, Messi is focused on the Copa América. Argentina play their first knockout game tomorrow against Ecuador.

His father and agent, Jorge Messi, is said to maintain contacts with PSG. But Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly said he’s not worried and expects Messi’s new deal to be signed soon.
